A Council meeting held on 8 February 2018 resolved to extend and establish new AFZs on CBD road reserves. Under the Local Government Act 1993 (LGA), Council is required to undertake public consultation before adopting its proposal to establish new Alcohol Free Zones in the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area.
In accordance with Section 644 of the Local Government Act, new AFZs are proposed in the Coffs Harbour central business district as follows:
Harbour Drive between Gordon Street and Curacoa Street
Park Avenue between Gordon Street and Earl Street
Park Avenue Lane between Gordon Street and Earl Street
Curacoa Street between Harbour Drive and Coff Street
Albany Street between Market Street and Curacoa Street.
The AFZs listed above will be in force for 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Creating Alcohol Free Zones assists with the reduction of alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour in identified locations, creating a safer environment for residents, businesses and visitors. The streets nominated in this proposition are cited by Police as places where intoxicated people congregate and walk between Brelsford Park and the CBD.
