Coffs Harbour is a growing regional city with many characteristics that make living here increasingly attractive. The latest chapter of Council's growth strategy (draft Coffs Harbour Local Growth Management Strategy - Chapter 8 - Employment Lands - now released for public comment) aims to enhance and build on these qualities to help grow local jobs.

Draft Chapter 8 provides a 20-year view of how to manage, facilitate and accommodate a range of future employment lands within the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area (LGA). In the draft Chapter, the term 'employment lands' refers to land that is predominantly used for retail, commercial, business, office, or industrial activities that result in employment.

The draft chapter is based around seven core directions to guide the supply, development and efficient use of employment lands across the Coffs Harbour LGA.

1. Support and reinforce Coffs Harbour City Centre as the geographic and economic heart of the LGA

2. Protect and strengthen industrial areas, to provide a reliable economic and employment base for the region

3. Encourage renewal of centres and employment precincts in line with place-based strategies

4. Promote Coffs Harbour LGA as the major regional centre by strengthening connections with surrounding LGAs

5. Invest in strategic transport linkages to enhance utilisation of employment lands and attract further investment

6. Align and protect a diversity of jobs and services to meet the needs of the growing population

7. Leverage employment anchor institutes through strategic partnerships and agglomeration of complimentary uses.

The Implementation Plan within the draft chapter outlines the range of strategies that have been developed to achieve these directions and to align with NSW Government policy directions and actions.
