Public Exhibition closed: Thank you to everyone who made a submission.

The City of Coffs Harbour (the City) invites feedback on the draft Coastal Management Program (CMP) for the estuaries of Arrawarra Creek, Pipe Clay Lake and Corindi River.

Purpose of the CMP

The vision of the CMP is: To support and enable integrated management and sustainable long-term development of Arrawarra Creek, Pipe Clay Lake and Corindi River and surrounding natural environments, to retain and improve the rich social, cultural, economic and environmental values they offer.

Objectives for the CMP

  • Improving surface runoff and estuary water quality
  • Maintaining and improving recreation, tourism and amenity
  • Protecting and rehabilitating coastal geodiversity, biodiversity and habitats
  • Improving governance, education and scientific values of estuaries
  • Protecting and promoting cultural heritage
  • Preparing for, and managing, coastal processes and hazards

The draft CMP includes 11 prioritised actions to be implemented by the City and other land managers and agencies over the next 10 years to protect and enhance the values of these waterways. Some actions are Council’s sole responsibility, while others are a collaborative approach with other organisations.

Values for the CMP

  1. Continuing Aboriginal Heritage and Connection
  2. Recreation
  3. Ecological and wildlife significance
  4. Uniqueness and education
  5. Clean waters

How was the draft CMP developed?

It has been developed over four years, involving technical studies and consultation with stakeholders such as Transport for NSW, NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and NSW Department of Primary Industries, as well as local community.

To view previous stages of the CMP visit the project page and watch the video to learn about Coastal Management Programs.

Management actions include activities related to:

  • land use planning
  • foreshore management
  • stormwater and water quality outcomes, and
  • environmental monitoring
