Public Exhibition has concluded

Help shape the future of our estuaries

We recently invited the community to provide feedback on the draft Coastal Management Program (CMP) for the Central Coffs Estuaries.

The draft CMP was developed with input from community members and local stakeholders and outlines proposed management actions to protect and enhance the environmental, cultural and recreational values of these important waterways.

The public exhibition period was from Monday 27 October 2025 to Wednesday 26 November 2025.Thank you to everyone who took the time to review the document and make a submission.

What's this Program About?

The Central Coffs Estuaries — Moonee Creek, Coffs Creek and Boambee/Newport Creek — are treasured natural assets that provide rich ecosystems, cultural significance and popular recreational spaces for locals and visitors.

These waterways are facing increasing pressures, including natural hazards, changing land use, urban development and climate change. To address these challenges, the City is preparing a Coastal Management Program in line with the NSW Government’s Coastal Management Framework.

During earlier engagement, the community helped identify what they value most about the estuaries and the priorities for their long-term protection.

What Happens Next

All feedback received during the exhibition period will now be reviewed and reported to Council. Council will then decide whether to adopt the final CMP.

Once adopted, the CMP will guide management actions over the next 10 years. These actions will help:
• maintain healthy ecosystems and biodiversity
• protect public assets from current and future hazards
• support safe, sustainable access and ongoing enjoyment of the estuaries

The CMP will also help enable funding and implementation of on-ground projects that deliver real benefits for the community and environment.
