We are developing a Coastal Management Program for the Central Coffs Estruaries.
Throughout the process the community will be invited to share your feedback.
To stay updated read the 'News Feed' below.

Purpose of the Coastal Management Program

The estuaries of Moonee Creek, Coffs Creek, and Boambee/Newports Creek (the Central Coffs Estuaries) are major assets for the Coffs Harbour Region.

They provide a stunning natural environment, and a range of recreational opportunities for the local community and visitors alike.

The estuaries are facing increasing pressures from natural hazards, catchment land usage, urban development, and climate change.

In order to tackle these issues, we are developing a Coastal Management Program (CMP) for the three estuaries.

The program will be prepared in line with the NSW Government Coastal Management Framework, a recent initiative by the NSW Government to equip communities to respond to the challenges facing the state’s coastline and estuaries.

Have your Say

To help inform the development of the CMP the community is encouraged to share feedback how they use, experience and what they value about our estuaries and how they would like them to be managed.

Stage 3: The community was invited to share feedback via a survey, as part of the preliminary potential management options for the estuaries.

The feedback provided during Stage 3 will help us to refine potential management options and prepare for Stage 4 of the Draft Coastal Management Program.

Stage 4: We will develop a Draft Coastal Management Plan for the estuaries with key management actions. The community will be invited to share feedback during the development of Stage 4.

To follow the progress of this project, we encourage you to check out the 'News Feed' function on this page.

Next steps

The community will be invited to provide feedback on the draft CMP during the public exhibition during 2024.

Once the CMP is abopted by Council, the CMP management and actions will be implemented over a 10-year period. The Program will enable the funding and implementation of projects that will provide tangible benefits to the local community - through maintaining healthy ecosystems and biodiversity, protecting public assets from current and future hazards and ensuring safe and sustainable access to the estuaries.

    We need your input!

Moonee Creek, Coffs Creek, and Boambee/Newports Creek Estuaries are significant coastal features and the City of Coffs Harbour is now seeking local input to help develop specific measures aimed at preserving and enhancing these waterways.

The City is preparing a Draft Central Coffs Harbour Estuaries Coastal Management Program and we’ve developed some preliminary potential draft management options based on the latest science – and previous input from residents who value or live near these estuaries – and now we’re keen to hear what people think about these proposals.
