August 2: CITY SQUARE revitalisation works are moving along well, with the bulk of construction now completed for the Shared Pedestrian Zones in Harbour Drive and Park Avenue Lane.

Contractors will soon stencil a cobblestone-like pattern on the Shared Zones to enhance the appeal of the City Square. There will also be some street art on the approach and exit of the Park Avenue Lane Shared Zone.

Works have been completed on the paving of the centre strip in the Square and local sub-contractors are now in the process of creating he timber-look surface for the eastern dining strip. Once this is completed, the eight large new umbrellas will be installed on this section. Two more large umbrellas are to be installed on the western dining section.

CCTV, new major overhead lighting, ground strip lighting and fairy lighting in the trees has now all been completed and tested.

QMC Group are the principal contractors working on the $2.5 million City Square revitalisation project, which is funded through a Special Rate, paid by property owners in the Coffs CBD. A number of local sub-contractors are also working on the project.

The revitalisation project is one of the key projects identified in the Coffs City Centre Masterplan 2031.

Key elements of the City Square project include: CCTV security, contemporary lighting, event power supplies, new paving, 13 large cafe umbrellas to replace the existing arbours, new public seating, communal tables for shared dining experiences, raised Shared Zone on Park Avenue Lane to improve pedestrian safety, timber-look stamped concrete paving and upgrades to the western kiosk.

The eastern kiosk is to be removed in the latter stages of the project.

QMC Group was appointed to start work on the project in March 2019 and it is expected that the project will be completed in August this year.

The Sydney-based QMC Group has completed numerous projects similar to the City Square upgrade and has significant experience in working with businesses throughout construction.

Works are being completed in stages, to minimise impacts and to maintain business access. Coffs Coast Growers Markets is temporarily relocated along Harbour Drive footpaths until the project is completed.

City Square designs were finalised last year, following extensive consultations with property owners, traders and the wider community.
