Thank you for your feedback on the draft Moonee Creek Flood Study, we are currently reviewing all submissions prior to finalising the study. Submissions closed on 6 June 2025.

Project overview

To help us better understand flood risk, and help manage flood-prone areas we have undertaken a new flood study for Moonee Creek. This is the crucial step of the floodplain management process and covers the localities of Moonee Beach, Sapphire Beach and the parts of Emerald Beach in the Moonee Creek catchment.

The study has been conducted by a team of experts at JB Pacific. They have worked closely with the City, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), NSW State Emergency Service (SES), and the community to undertake the flood study.

It aimed to provide an understanding of the full range of flood behaviour and flood events for the study area. It involved consideration of the localised flood history, available collected flood data, and the development of hydrologic and hydraulic models to understand flood risk.

The outputs of the study will assist City by providing;

  • probabilistic flood mapping to be able to share with the community
  • emergency management information
  • an understanding of future flood scenarios incorporating climate change and development

Next steps

Thank you for your feedback on our draft flood study, we are currently reviewing all submissions prior to finalising the study.

Once adopted, the study will be used to guide and inform development in flood prone areas, emergency management, and planning certificates, An online version of the final revised Moonee Creek Flood Study will be freely available to the public.
