The Regional Water Supply Scheme (RWSS), which serves Clarence Valley Council and Coffs Harbour City Council areas, involved both the construction of Shannon Creek Dam and associated pipelines to connect the two areas to the raw water supply provided, and a non-build component focused on community using that water efficiently so that the new dam and pipelines could reliably serve these communities well into the future.

Since the implementation of the first regional water efficiency strategy aimed at reducing water use in the late 1990s, the average amount of water supplied to a residential property in a year has decreased. To continue this progress in a region with a growing population and to ensure the adopted strategies remain current, they have been periodically updated with community input to help guide the next steps in our regional approach to water efficiency.

The current Draft Water Efficiency Strategic Plan (WESP) 2020 and Draft Water Efficiency Implementation Plan (WEIP) 2020 build on the initiatives and successes of the previous water efficiency measures to continue to deliver comprehensive and effective water conservation programs for a more sustainable water supply for the Coffs Harbour and Clarence Valley communities. The WESP provides the framework for the revised water efficiency strategies including project drivers, goals and areas for action. The WEIP provides details on the actions required to implement the WESP, including time frames and budgets.

Following Council endorsement, the Draft Water Efficiency Strategic Plan (WESP) 2020 and the Draft Water Efficiency Implementation Plan (WEIP) 2020 have been placed on public exhibition for 28 days in both the Coffs Harbour and Clarence Valley areas. For Coffs Harbour area residents, the documents will be on public exhibition on this Have Your Say page and at Council's Customer Service Centre. The exhibition will be promoted via Council’s website and advertised in the Coffs Harbour Advocate newspaper. You can find more information on the Regional Water Supply Scheme on Council’s website.

Coffs Harbour City Council and Clarence Valley Council seek input from their respective communities on the new Draft Water Efficiency Strategic Plan (WESP) 2020 and the Draft Water Efficiency Implementation Plan (WEIP) 2020. The public exhibition period for the draft documents is open from Wednesday 24 June - 5pm Wednesday 22 July.
