The City of Coffs Harbour considers proposals to name reserves across the local government area. Reserve names help identify important community places and can recognise local history, culture, significant people, geographical features and connections to place.

Reserve naming proposals are assessed in accordance with the City's Reserve Naming and Memorial Policy, which provides a consistent, transparent and equitable process for considering proposed names. Depending on the proposal, reserve names may reflect:

  • The suburb or street where the reserve is located
  • A nearby geographical feature
  • Historical, cultural or community significance
  • Aboriginal place names or dual naming opportunities
  • Significant individuals or families who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.

Where a proposal is considered to have merit, the City publicly exhibits the proposal and invites community feedback before making a decision.

While Council considers naming proposals and community submissions, the official naming of places in New South Wales is regulated under the Geographical Names Act 1966 and may require approval from the NSW Geographical Names Board before a name can be formally adopted.

Proposed Naming of Olive Walker Reserve

The City is inviting community feedback on a proposal to name the currently unnamed reserve at the intersection of Halls Road and Lophostemon Drive, Coffs Harbour as Olive Walker Reserve.

The proposal aims to recognise the contribution of Olive Walker, a former local resident who dedicated many years to supporting the Coffs Harbour community through volunteer work and her involvement with Royal Far West.
