Regardless of whether you are a passionate and regular tennis player, or pick up the racquet a couple of times of year for a social hit-up, we want to hear your thoughts on tennis throughout the Coffs Harbour City Council LGA (local government area). It's easy! Just click the green box below and complete the survey before 30 November 2020.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

This project will deliver a strategy that;

  • Identifies facilities needed to support all levels of participation, from social hit-ups through to competitions and tournaments.
  • Supports the long term health and sustainability of tennis.
  • Meets current and future needs of the broader community.
  • Identifies tennis facility provision gaps.
  • Provides a capital works program for tennis facilities across the LGA.*
  • Assesses the strategic demand, value and viability of developing a Regional Tennis Centre.**
  • Recommends whether Coffs Harbour Tennis Centre at Brelsford Park is retained and renewed, or repurposed.
  • Recommends the most effective and practical management models for the variety of tennis facilities in the LGA.

*Please note: No funds have been secured for the implementation of recommendations. This study will provide the strategic evidence and need for projects, which will be used to strengthen grant applications and assist with sourcing funding to help improve tennis facilities.

**Please note: A large body of research and stakeholder engagement is required before the feasibility of a regional tennis centre is developed. At the end of Stage 3 there will be a hold point for Council to review the regional tennis centre feasibility report. Should the feasibility study recommend a regional tennis centre, and it is decided to proceed with further planning, a strategic business plan, design concepts, and a costed capital works program associated with a regional tennis centre will be developed . Conversely, should the feasibility study not recommend a new regional tennis centre, no further planning work on this type of facility will take place.

STRATEGIC BACKGROUND

The 2016 Coffs Harbour Sports Facility Plan included a high level supply and demand assessment of tennis facilities in the LGA, and made recommendations on future facility provision. This study will draw on the expertise of a consultant sport and leisure planner who will explore facility needs in greater detail. Recommendations from this study will be incorporated into the next review of the Coffs Harbour Sports Facility Plan. This document is available in the Document Library on this page.

The 2018 Brelsford Park Precinct Analysis and Masterplan excluded planning for the footprint of land currently represented by Coffs Harbour Tennis Club. On page 22 of the master plan document, it notes this land parcel is "subject to feasibility analysis as per recommendations". For further detail, please refer to the master plan document in the Document Library on this page.

This study will recommend if tennis will have a presence at Brelsford Park into the future and, if so, what facilities are included. The recommendations will be related to the LGA-wide supply and demand analysis.
