Safety tips

September 2022

  • The bike lane and the shared path have been installed
  • The battens recently installed are temporary for the purpose of the trial with the intent to be overly visible in the initial term to make people alert to the changed conditions.

Safety Tips for using the bike lane

  • Give Way signs and road markings are installed to indicate where a driver and cyclist must give way.
  • The bike lane is coloured green at the intersections to make both drivers and cyclists more alert.

Drivers Give Way

  • Vehicle drivers give way to cyclists riding along the bike lane at the intersections of Bultitude Street and Boundary Street.
  • A driver turning either right or left off Beach Street into these side streets must give way to cyclists travelling either way on the bike lane.
  • A driver coming out of the side street onto Beach Street must also give way to cyclists travelling either way on the bike lane.

Cyclist Give Way

  • Cyclist must give way to vehicles on entering Ganderton Street where the shared path on the verge crosses the street
  • Cyclists on the shared path should also travel at slower speeds near pedestrians, keep to the left and give way to pedestrians.
