The Youth Issues and Options Paper provides:

  • a current overview of key demographic data, trends, issues and opportunities relevant for young people in our Local Government Area (LGA)
  • identifies Coffs Harbour City Council’s current youth engagement activities; and,
  • offers options for Council and community consideration for future planning.

A variety of sources informed this Paper including; a review of Council’s recent youth consultations; recommendations from a youth led Youth Engagement Research Report; stakeholder consultations, literature review and current demographic data.

Council proudly supports and values young people and readily accepts an important role and responsibility in providing a youth friendly community, as reflected in the MyCoffs Community Strategic Plan.

About 15% of the population in the Coffs Harbour LGA are young people, those aged between 12 and 24 years. Policy-makers and researchers recognise that young people are experts in their own lives. They have knowledge and experiences that are unique to them and hold unique perspectives of their communities and world.

The paper was open for feedback from 27 July until August 24.

The exhibition period will be promoted via Council’s public notices on Council's website, Council's newsletter and through our Social Platforms. You can find more information on Children and Youth in the Coffs Harbour community on Council’s website.
