Consultation has concluded

The Jetty Memorial Theatre is located at 337 Harbour Drive, Coffs Harbour and provides an intimate 255 seat performing arts facility for the Coffs Harbour community.

The proposed expansion of the Jetty Memorial Theatre is to provide a new rehearsal/community space, workshop plus set assembly area for the building of theatrical sets. It will also address current facility limitations by providing an expanded kiosk and foyer, additional toilet and shower amenities, and additional car parking.

This is a project that has been endorsed by Council resolution to be made shovel-ready for future external funding opportunities. The planning and design completed to date identifies the project cost to be $4.9 million excluding GST (based upon updated DA Cost Plan dated October 2021) to design and construct. Key stakeholders were consulted during the concept design process. The Development Consent has been completed in May 2019. A peer review of the design by a performing arts design by a specialist architect was completed May 2021.

The project is currently not funded.

Completion of the project is expected to result in an improved performance facility capable of better hosting music and theatre productions, enabling local amateur theatre rehearsal, youth groups and community based activities all within an improved modern surrounding, sympathetic to the heritage significance of the Jetty Memorial Theatre.

The expansion includes:

  • A rehearsal/community space that is 11m wide and 11m deep, replicating the existing performance stage inclusive of directing space. The space will also be available to be used as an community space, with access to a a kitchenette and amenities;
  • Additional male, female and accessible amenities including shower facility;
  • A set assembly area which is directly accessible to the existing stage, as well as a workshop area and costume and prop storage areas;
  • Improved storage for Jetty Theatre management;
  • Development of the venue to be expanded to a modern quality standard sympathetic to the heritage significance of the facility;
  • Additional car parking, including accessible car space; and
  • Extension of the existing kiosk/bar and foyer area.

Council has established this project web page to inform the community of the proposed Jetty Memorial Theatre expansion plan. The document library provides a copy of the proposed floor plans, elevations and images.

Council is also undertaking studies into community facilities broadly across the Local Government Area. Community facilities being reviewed include community and youth centres, halls and other indoor venues (including performing arts spaces). These studies will ensure we can put plans in place to provide facilities that meet the needs of our growing community now and in the future.

This project aligns with Council's Creative Coffs - Cultural Strategic Plan 2017-2022, "as our community and city have grown Council has placed an increasing priority in maintaining and improving its cultural facilities and services", as well as commenced through resolution of Council as a shovel-ready project for future external funding opportunities.

This page will be updated throughout the project.
