PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Coffs Harbour City Council (Council) is holding a photography competition (Competition) as part of the ‘Building an EPIC Stadium for the Future’ project. When finished, the upgrade to C.ex Coffs International Stadium (the Stadium) will offer nearly 3000 seats as well as upgraded player, media, spectator and corporate facilities.

As part of the Competition we are seeking stunning photographs that can be utilised throughout the Stadium that reflect the beauty of the Coffs Coast.

The Coffs Coast extends from Urunga in the south to Red Rock in the north and west to Dorrigo. The region incorporates both the Coffs Harbour and Bellingen local government areas. See below for a map showing the Coffs Coast boundaries.

HOW TO ENTER

  • Submit your entry by completing the online entry form and uploading your photograph(s) HERE
  • By submitting a photograph you are accepting our terms and conditions for this competition
  • The photograph(s) you submit online are for judging purposes only. Short-listed photographs must be able to be supplied on request in a large file format, as outlined in the Entry Criteria and General Information section (see following)

Prizes:

  • Junior division - The winner for each category will receive $250
  • Open division - The winner for each category will receive $500

Key Dates:

  • ENTRIES OPEN - Friday, 8 June 2018
  • COMPETITION CLOSES - Midnight (12:00am) Sunday, 15 July 2018
  • JUNIOR DIVISION ONLINE VOTING - 11am, Monday 23 July, until 2pm, Friday 10 August

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Entries can be submitted to either the Junior or Open division. Each division contains Coastal, Hinterland and Urban categories. You can enter 1 photograph per category.

Each photograph will be judged on technical quality (including composition, clarity, colour, lighting, exposure and focus), originality, artistic merit, and ability to capture our local environment in a creative and visually appealing manner in keeping with the Artistic Considerations.

Winning photographs may be displayed within the Stadium.

Photographs in the Open Division may appear as large format prints on walls and / or columns in either landscape or portrait orientations including:

  • Internal walls (approx. 4m x 2.4m)
  • Panorama (approx. 10m x 2.4m)
  • Internal columns (approx. 1.8m diameter x 2.4m)

Photographs in the Junior Division may appear on watercooler stations at the Stadium.

ARTISTIC CONSIDERATIONS

Photographs should capture the essence of the Coffs Coast – consider lifestyle, urban landscape, hinterland and rainforest, coastal and ocean environments.

Photographs should adhere to a natural, realistic style and tone with:

  • natural lighting and shadows
  • subtle colour, not over-saturated
  • not over-sharpened or over-processed images

We recommend that photographs only include people in the distance or photographed from behind and should not be the focus of the image. Refer to point 5 in the Terms and Conditions for more information about including people in your photographs.

ENTRY CRITERIA AND GENERAL INFORMATION

The following criteria are applicable to both divisions (Open and Junior):

  • Entry to the competition is free and open to anyone who lives or works on the Coffs Coast
  • Age restrictions apply to each division
  • The photograph must have been taken on the Coffs Coast (refer to map on page 5) within the past 12 months
  • Entrants may submit ONE (1) photograph in each category (Urban/Hinterland/Coastal)
  • Photographs are to reflect the Artistic Considerations
  • Photographs must be in colour
  • Digital enhancement of photographs is permissible but must be advised when submitting your entry
  • Photographs must be original and the work of the entrant
  • All photographs submitted for judging must be supplied as a minimum 300dpi tiff file (1MB maximum)
  • All entrants retain copyright in their work
  • Entrants, finalists and winning entrants grant Council a licence to use their photographs as described in the Terms and Conditions
  • The Selection Panel’s decision will be final and no discussions or correspondence will be entered into
  • Winners will be notified via email and a press release will be sent to the Coffs Coast Advocate announcing competition winners and posted on the Council website news page

The following additional criteria are specific to each division:

JUNIOR DIVISION

  • Open to photographers under 18 years of age.
    • Entrants must have the consent of their parent or legal guardian
    • Photographs must be in portrait orientation
    • Entries will be shortlisted by the Selection Panel
    • Shortlisted entries will be uploaded to the C.ex Coffs International Stadium Facebook page where the public will vote for their favourite photograph

OPEN DIVISION

  • Open to photographers 18 years of age and over
    • Photographs may be in either portrait or landscape orientation
    • Shortlisted entries will be judged by a selection panel
    • Short-listed photographs in the Open Division must be able to be supplied on request in a large file format (as outlined in About the Competition above)

SELECTION PANEL

Entries will be judged by a panel of judges appointed by the Council.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The promoter of the Competition is Coffs Harbour City Council (Council) (ABN 79 126 214 487), Locked Bag 155, Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450.
  2. Council’s ‘Searching for an EPIC Photo’ photography competition period begins 12pm, Friday 8 June 2018 and closes Midnight (12:00am) Sunday 15 July 2018.
  3. Entrants must live or work on the Coffs Coast.
  4. Council Officials, the Competition Selection Panel and their immediate family members are ineligible to enter the Competition.
  5. Entrants under 18 years of age are deemed to have consent of their parent of legal guardian.
  6. Confirmation is required of parental/legal guardian consent prior to finalists in the Junior division being shortlisted for online voting.
  7. Entrants warrant that all identifiable people within their photograph have given their permission or consent and where an entry contains an image of a child or young persons under 18 years of age proof of consent from the parent or legal guardian must accompany the entry.
  8. A photograph that has won a prize previously in any competition is ineligible for entry.
  9. Council may cancel or vary the Competition at any time and will not be responsible for any loss or costs incurred by the entrant in relation to such cancellation or variation.
  10. Entrants warrant their entry is original and does not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party. The entrant will indemnify and keep indemnified Council against any claim by a third party in relation to their entry.
  11. The entrant gives Council the right to edit, crop or modify their photograph/s to suit the final application as deemed appropriate, without consultation with the entrant.
  12. Owners of winning photographs grant Council an irrevocable, world-wide, perpetual right to reproduce, communicate or otherwise use that photograph in any medium whatsoever.
  13. Entrants grant Council a licence to reproduce, publish, communicate or display the work online (including social media), in presentations, videos, publications and, if selected as a winning entry, for public display. Photographs may be shown in electronic media or printed on large photographic murals. Participants grant the right of Council to use the work for the purpose of documentation and promotion of the Competition. The photograph will be acknowledged wherever possible.
  14. The Council reserves the right to use the photographs for various media formats including, but not limited to advertisements, print media, websites, and for exhibition purposes.
  15. Council reserves the right to transfer entries between Competition divisions.
  16. Council will not accept late entries. Entries will be deemed to be accepted at the time of receipt by Council within its email system. No responsibility will be taken for lost, late or misdirected entries.
  17. By submitting an entry you are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.
