  Managing fire on your property and across the landscape

  The Hotspots Fire Project enables landholders and public land managers to work together to reduce bush fire risk across the landscape, whilst maintaining and improving biodiversity and protecting Cultural Heritage.

  FREE two-day workshop

  For landholders in the Nana Glen Area

  In conjunction with Coffs Harbour City Council

  Orara Valley Hotspots Fire Project workshop series

  Discuss risk management, fire ecology, recovery and regeneration Understand how your neighbours and other land management agencies manage fire

  Receive a large aerial photo of your property to develop your own Fire Management Plan Participate in field-based exercises and observe a demonstration burn

  When: Workshop 1 – 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, 8 May 2021

• Bushfire Landscape Recovery Support Workshop

  Topics to be presented:

  • Weed species ID and control,
  • Native flora rehabilitation
  • Plant back species including fire retardant species
  • Erosion control

  The workshop is aimed at raising awareness and restoration efforts to assist native vegetation in growing back, while also improving soil quality, preventing erosion, and controlling invasive species - which can be particularly aggressive after forest fires without intervention. A restoration ecologist will demonstrate skills and knowledge in natural area management issues and on-ground practices in fire affected landscape.

  Bushfire Recovery for Wildlife and Habitat Community Grants Program

  The Bushfire Recovery for Wildlife and Habitat Community Grants Program supports local community groups to deliver bushfire recovery activities for native flora and fauna supporting broader long-term recovery and resilience.

  Grants from $5,000 to $150,000

  Who is this for?

  Community and environment groups, Traditional Owners, Indigenous Organisations and Indigenous businesses.

  Overview

  The objectives of this grant opportunity are to encourage recovery efforts in areas affected by the 2019-20 bushfires by:

  • supporting recovery of native flora and fauna
  • involving local communities, community groups and Traditional Owners, in delivering bushfire recovery activities for native flora and fauna.

  
  

  The program is confined to bushfire-affected areas within the eastern and southern part of Australia affected by the 2019-20 bushfires, or adjacent to an affected area.

  There is $10 million available for this grant opportunity.

  The minimum grant is $5,000 and the maximum grant is $150,000.

  You must complete your project by 1 April 2022.

  The Bushfire Recovery Grants Program is an initiative delivered by Coffs Harbour City Council funded by the Commonwealth through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement. Fire affected landholders in the Coffs Harbour local government area are now able to get support through this project to carry out environmental recovery actions on their property. Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare, Orara Valley Rivercare Groups and Envite Environment have been engaged by Council to manage these environmental recovery efforts.

  The bushfires that occurred in the Coffs Harbour local government area in 2019, had a significant impact on the local biodiversity across a number of areas. The loss of vegetation in these fire affected areas has had significant impact on the local wildlife. This project aims to support fire affected landholders to carry out environmental recovery actions on their properties, to restore native vegetation that was lost in the fires and protect the remaining remnant vegetation to provide refuge and habitat for displaced wildlife.

  If you are a landholder whose property was affected by fire and would like support with environmental recovery actions or if your property was not affected but you are directly adjacent to a burnt area and have remnant vegetation that could be a valuable wildlife refuge, please click here and fill in the Expression of Interest Form.

  BlazeAid continue to assist residents in the Orara Valley and to-date have replaced 40 km of fencing. Laing O’Rourke have been on-the-ground for approximately three weeks and have completed clean-up on 12 of the 18 properties registered. Registration can be accessed on the Service NSW website under NSW Bushfire Clean-Up.

  Laing O’Rourke was appointed by the NSW Government to coordinate the NSW Bushfire clean-up program across the state.

  Clean-up works are currently scheduled to commence in our region within the next fortnight (subject to weather and ease of access).

  The clearing and removal of damaged materials is an important step in the recovery from the devastation that has been experienced by our community. By clearing the deluge communities will be able to start to rebuild their lives both emotionally and physically.

  While COVID 19 is presenting new challenges, the NSW Government and Laing O’Rourke are committed to keeping momentum in the roll out of the clean-ups while keeping your health and safety as the highest priority.
