The City of Coffs Harbour (City) is seeking community feedback on the draft Councillor Expenses and Facilities Policy.
This policy outlines how the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors are supported in their roles through the reimbursement of reasonable expenses and the provision of necessary facilities.
Why is this important?
Councillors are elected to represent our community and are required to attend meetings, participate in training, and engage with residents and stakeholders. To support them in these responsibilities, the City provides access to tools, resources, and funding for reasonable costs.
The policy ensures:
Transparency about how public funds are used
Accountability in what can be claimed
Consistency with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993
The City is required by law to adopt this policy within the first 12 months of each Council term. Before finalising the policy, it must be placed on public exhibition for a minimum of 28 days to allow the community to review and provide feedback.
What’s changing in 2025?
The policy has been reviewed and updated. Key proposed changes include:
Clearer expense definitions and required documentation
Updates to digital and remote participation support
Adjusted monetary limits in line with current needs
Public exhibition closes 5pm, Tuesday 22 July 2025.
