What is the Liquid Trade Wast Policy?

    This policy outlines the City’s requirements for the discharge of liquid trade waste to the City’s reticulated sewerage system and seeks to achieve the following objectives: 

    1. To manage discharges to sewerage systems 
    2. To provide an environmentally responsible liquid waste management service to the non-residential sector 
    3. To protect public health 
    4. To ensure the safety of the City’s employees 
    5. To ensure that waste permitted into the sewer, can be treated, reused and/or returned to the natural environment without harm 
    6. To protect the community’s assets from unsafe or unsuitable substances 
    7. To encourage waste minimisation 
    8. To provide a financial incentive for waste minimisation 
    9. To apply a charging structure to industry which recovers cost of services (user pays system), encourages industry to comply with the City’s requirements and encourages industrial development 
    10. To ensure that all liquid trade waste discharges are subject to formal approval between the City and industry 
    11. To ensure compliance of liquid trade waste discharge with the approved conditions 
    12. To obtain appropriate and accurate information regarding volume, composition, concentration, mass loads and periodicity of liquid trade waste discharge to the sewerage system to assist in the effective operation and future augmentation of these sewer systems and treatment plants

    • Part 1 was amended to clarify some requirements 
    • Section 3 Fees and Charges was added to the policy 
    • A definition for Domestic Sewage was added

    What is the Pressure Sewer System Policy

    There are situations where conventional gravity sewerage may not be viable. As an alternative a Pressure Sewer System may be permitted. 

    Typically, pressure sewer systems require much smaller pipelines than conventional gravity sewerage systems and are also laid shallower (generally following the contours of the land). 

    Pressure sewer systems do not contain manholes or lamp holes as these facilities are not needed or suitable. This policy documents the City’s requirement in regards the installation of a Pressure Sewer System.

    What is the Urban Rainwater Tank Policy

    This policy addresses the requirements regarding the installation and registration of rainwater tanks in urban areas where town water supply is available. The objective of this policy is to: 

    1. Monitor information regarding rainwater tank volumes and potable water connection details 

    2. Administer backflow requirements to protect the town water supply system

    What is the Water Carters Policy

    This policy exists to regulate water carter businesses operating in the City to ensure compliance with relevant environmental, public health and financial requirements associated with drawing and selling potable water. This policy has been developed so that: 

    1. All residents in the City can rely on a safe water supply 
    2. The City and its food business customers comply with the NSW Health and NSW Food Authority requirements 
    3. The City can implement best practice by working to Water Services of Australia Standpipe and Hydrant Metering Code of Practice 
    4. The City can be assured of full revenue recovery for production of water, provision of infrastructure to legally access the City’s water reticulation system and administration of the subsequent approval system

    What are the proposed changes to the Water Carters Policy?

    The Water Carters Policy was reviewed, and section 2.1.3 was amended to make having a credit account the main payment process for customers and make pre-paid available by exception.
