We recently sought community input on proposed improvements to the Park Avenue Bus Interchange Precinct – and we appreciate everyone who participated.

From better seating and shade to improved lighting, landscaping, public art, infrastructure upgrades, and easier access – the community shared a wide range of ideas. Thank you for letting us know what enhancements matter most to you.

The City of Coffs Harbour received $1 million through the NSW Government’s reVITALise Public Transport Precinct Vibrancy Program, a funding initiative supporting place-based projects that enhance the vibrancy, safety, and connectivity of public transport hubs. Using this funding, Council focused on upgrading the Park Avenue Bus Interchange Precinct.

What Happened?

Our aim to create a safer, more vibrant, and better-connected public transport hub to support the needs of our growing community. We gathered feedback from daily commuters, students, local businesses, and residents to shape upgrades focused on safety, accessibility, and overall user experience.

Community Engagement Activities Included:

  • Two walkshops with 26 participants exploring the precinct

  • One co-design workshop with 21 participants to define shared priorities

  • An online survey completed by 203 people

  • An interactive ideas wall for community submissions

  • On-site observations and evaluation of current usage

These activities helped us understand how people currently interact with the precinct, how safe and welcoming it feels, and which improvements are most valued.

What We Heard

Participants consistently highlighted the need for:

  • Improved seating and shading

  • Enhanced lighting and a greater sense of safety

  • Public art and landscaping

  • Better accessibility and upgraded infrastructure

This feedback helped shape a vision for a more welcoming, inclusive, and functional public transport precinct for everyone in our community.

What’s Next?

With community feedback now reviewed, Council is moving into the planning phase. Priority ideas identified through engagement will guide the next stage of improvements to the precinct, followed by construction planning and delivery.
Stay tuned for further updates as we move forward with transforming the Park Avenue Bus Interchange into a welcoming and accessible space for all.
